TOWNEAR DIRECTORY — DATA SOURCES AND REUSE The normalized towing database (providers.json and providers.csv) contains information from OpenStreetMap contributors and publicly available towing operator websites. Each record includes a source URL. Additional source URLs are retained in providers.json when duplicate records have been merged. The directory database is made available under the Open Database License 1.0 (ODbL): https://opendatacommons.org/licenses/odbl/1-0/ Contains information from OpenStreetMap, available under the ODbL: https://www.openstreetmap.org/copyright Copyright OpenStreetMap contributors. providers.json is the database index. Its parts list identifies all providers-NN.json files needed to reconstruct the database. providers.csv.zip contains the complete published directory as a CSV. Business names and trademarks remain those of their respective owners. The database license does not grant rights to provider logos or website text. City and postal-area location data in places.json is derived from GeoNames, available under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0: https://www.geonames.org/ https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ Sources: https://download.geonames.org/export/zip/ and https://download.geonames.org/export/dump/ Transformations: selected Canadian and U.S. records, normalized region names, rounded coordinates, and aggregated postal locations for smaller settlements. Canadian postal lookups use the first three characters (forward sortation area). Coordinates are approximate and are not building entrances or driving routes. Imported September 28, 2026. The import date does not establish that a business is open, licensed, insured, currently dispatching, or reachable by its listed phone number. OpenStreetMap records are community-contributed. Source editing timestamps can refer to any map edit, not specifically contact verification. Coverage is incomplete. No paid listing API or live dispatch feed is connected. Town lookup also includes GeoNames cities500 and Canadian populated places (CA country extract), downloaded 2026-09-28, CC BY 4.0. Same-name communities remain separate and are labeled using a nearby larger city. Michigan town and township lookup includes populated places and ADM3 records from the GeoNames US extract, downloaded 2026-09-28, CC BY 4.0. U.S. town lookup also includes populated places from the full GeoNames US country extract, downloaded 2026-09-28 and incorporated 2026-09-29, CC BY 4.0. Highway-exit lookup (exits.json): © OpenStreetMap contributors, ODbL 1.0. Imported September 29, 2026 through Overpass. Numbered motorway_junction nodes are joined to connected through-road references (not exit destination roads). Nearby opposite-carriageway records with matching references are grouped within 2 km, retaining one mapped node coordinate as an approximate exit area. State and province membership comes from OSM administrative areas, with U.S. Census 2025 cartographic state boundaries (1:500,000) used for fallback imports. These simplified boundaries may omit some points very close to a border or shoreline. Census source: https://www.census.gov/geographies/mapping-files/2025/geo/carto-boundary-file.html Nearby city labels are derived from GeoNames. Coverage depends on mapped exit numbers and highway references; missing records are not estimated from exit numbers. Coordinates do not establish a safe stopping place, road access, a driving route, or dispatch availability. The downloadable exits.json is the database used by this lookup. NATIONAL EXPANSION — September 29, 2026 Overture Maps Places, release 2026-09-23.1: https://docs.overturemaps.org/guides/places/ https://docs.overturemaps.org/attribution/ Includes data from Meta, Microsoft, BrightQuery, DAC, Krick, PinMeTo, RenderSEO, Foursquare and AllThePlaces in this release. Townear modifications: selected Canada/US towing candidates; filtered closed, low-confidence, unsupported and unusable records; normalized contacts and regions; merged strong same-location matches. No claim of individual verification. US DOT/FMCSA Company Census File: https://data.transportation.gov/d/az4n-8mr2 Selected active USDOT records whose business names indicate road towing. Government registration does not establish live dispatch, current insurance, current contact details or availability to the public.
